Get Ready, Set, GO-Teach! That is just how our school year has started—we are running on full throttle and cannot slow down! We are excited about the many challenges ahead of us and are confident that we will achieve our goals that have been set for us by Dr. Jacqueline A. Brooks, Superintendent of Education, in concert with the Macon County Board of Education. One of our goals identified in the District’s 2014-2015 Strategic Plan is Goal 1: High Expectations and Engagement:
“The Macon County School System will strive to ensure high student achievement
in all students by maintaining high academic standards and high student expectations; by holding all staff and students accountable for the highest levels of performance possible; and by working with parents and other stakeholders to bring all persons and services to bear on the education of children in Macon County” (p.7)”
Our Attendance Drive started with the celebration of Attendance Month in September. Macon County Schools joined the State of Alabama and school districts all over the country to bring focus on the importance of students attending school every day. Attendance does matter because it has a direct affect on learning and student achievement. Our 2014 theme is: “Attend today…Achieve tomorrow.”
The Macon County Public Schools extend an invitation to everyone to participate in celebration of Attendance Matters Campaign, beginning September 1-April 30, 2015.
We want to showcase our students and our schools in their efforts to make Perfect Attendance a given—not an abnormality. Activities have been planned for the year and there is room for our parents, community friends and partners to join in. It may be attending an event in which students are recognized or making a donation to our Attendance Chest which holds gifts and rewards for those students with perfect attendance.
Again, please join us in making this a great year for the students of Macon County. I will be pleased to speak with you or your organization about the Attendance Matters Campaign, and share with you how you can make a difference. After all, we share a common goal-- ensuring that our students make positive and thoughtful contributions to our community and our society.
This is a two-year campaign. You may contact Ms, Tanika Jones at 34-727-1600 for more information on Attendance Matters.
Thank you for your support of the Macon County Public Schools and the students we serve.
