Macon County Schools
Career Tech Wins Grant
WRITTEN BY Melvin Lowe ON April 16, 2013
Macon County Public Schools was awarded a WIA (Workforce Improvement Act) Grant of 130K on last year. On today students from Notasulga High School were the first program participants to take advantage of this wonderful career development opportunity. Seven students were accompanied by Mrs. Ronita Abney,
Mr. Christopher Clark, and Dr. Melvin Lowe as they were orientated and processed at the Career Center in Montgomery, Alabama. These processes have taken the past two-months in preparation, data collection, recruitment, parental contact and consent before taking action on today. From now until September 2013 students in Macon County who qualify will participate in a serious of activities to include Dual Enrollment w/Trenholm State Technical College.

Staff members at the Career Center; Mrs. McQueen and Mrs. Wilson-Leonard welcomed our students during the process. Students completed aptitude assessments, interest inventories, and answered many questions relative to their career goals. They also received career coaching which will be a regular part of the program. They had an opportunity to see others within the center who were seeking jobs, building resumes, and developing interview skills necessary to obtain employment. Today was filled with many life-lessons of which all individuals should interface before existing high school.
