Retirement and Recognition Program 2013

The Macon County School System recognized Retirees for 2013 at a Brunch at Booker T. Washington High School on Friday, May 24th, 2013.

The Retirees included Ruth Evelyn Johnson Adams, Mary Williams Arrington, Charles Biggers, St., Richard Glaze, Sr., Alice S. Gooden, Shirley Graham.Vivian H. Greathouse, Samuel L. Harris, Tauheedah S. Hasan, Bertha Dean Biggers Howard, Mason McDade, Jr., Arthur L. Robinson and Catherine Sanders.

After a late morning feast of tradional Southern grits, eggs and all the trimmings, Dr. Venesia A. McClaney presided over the program.  The audience was entertained by the spiritual sounds of Rev. John H. Curry, Jr., Technology Coordinator, accompanied by Dr. Karen M. TatumDr. Kenneth P. Oliver recognized the Teachers of the Year, with teacher representatives from each school.  The teachers were presented with awards in recognition of their efforts.

The audience was enthralled by Melinda D. Curry-Hall, again accompanied on the piano by Dr. Karen M. Tatum.

There was a very special award to a very special teacher, as Ms Monica Hasley was named Teacher of the Year.  Ms Hasley is no stranger to the spotlight, as she was also named the WSFA Class Act, a recognition given to teachers by their students.  Ms Hasley certainly is a Macon County Class Act.

Dr. Brooks recognized achievement in academics and athletics, as two Macon County Employees earned their Doctorate degreesDr. Carolyn Bettis and Dr. Melvin Lowe, IIIMr. James Lucas, head football coach at Notasulga High School, was recognized for being named the 1-A Coach of the Year, 1012 -2013. 

There were remarks by Dr. Jacqueline A. Brooks, Superintendent, followed by closing remarks from present School Board Members, Mr. Theodore Samuel, President, Mrs. Elnora Smith- Love and Ms Mary Hooks.
