"Tis the season to be sharing", and our first annual Holiday sharing program. In collaboration with various community groups, Macon County Schools will be accepting donations of paper goods, food stuffs, gently-used and new clothing items and cleaning products (both personal items like soap and toothpaste and cleaning products like dishwashing liquids).
The Holiday Season is most difficult on the most needy, so please, open your hearts to those of us all around us, who, though they are not crying out, are still in great pain. Share your Blessings!

Shaykayla Washington, a student at Deborah Cannon Wolfe School, wrote a letter to President Barack Obama. You can imagine her surprise when she received a response from President Obama. Mr. Mason McDade, Principal at Deborah Cannon Wolfe, convened an assembly program on November 26th, 2012 at 10:00 AM in recognition of this achievement. Dr. Jacqueline Brooks, Superintendent, and many of the Central Office Staff were in attendance. Shaykala's Mother and Grand Parents were also in attendance.
Join us at the Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site for Evening Holiday Tours at “The Oaks” on Saturday, December 1st from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Park Rangers will conduct tours and discuss life at “The Oaks" - Home of Booker T. Washington. Guests will experience and learn about Victorian architecture and holiday customs.
Construction of “The Oaks” began in 1899. The family moved in around 1900, the end of the Victorian time period (1901). Its Queen Anne-style architecture has several features representative of the Victorian era. The introduction of indoor plumbing, electric lighting and the interior decorating style and use of dark wood, carpet and paint, makes this property a true example of a Victorian home.
Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site, which includes the George Washington Carver Museum and “The Oaks”, is managed by the National Park Service. Tours are daily and visits are at no charge. Groups are encouraged to contact the park to schedule tours. The Carver Museum is currently closed for renovations.
This event is FREE and open to the public. For more information, call 334-727-3200 or visit www.nps.gov/tuin.
The Macon County Public School System is delighted to present its' Career & Technical Education Department. On Thanksgiving Day 2012, students and staff participated in the 89th Annual Turkey Day Parade. This year was the first year Macon County Public Schools had an entry that represented its largest and fastest growing education division; Career & Technical Education. All across America specifically in Alabama, Career Tech Programs are interfacing new horizons. Macon County Public Schools has well embraced these educational treads by offering new programs, enhancing current student services, and by instituting intuitive leadership.
Educators in the entire department gave of themselves to make this years' entry a success. Mrs. Verdell Brown and Mrs. Cynthia Brown were greatly responsibly for the design development and selection of materials to be used. Mr. Tracy Stacy and Mr. Christopher Clark were instrumental in the structural engineering of the stage and prompts. Mr. William Turner and Dr. Mevin Lowe, III assisted with the technical engineering of the logo/graphics. Mrs. Ronita Abney coordinated the soft materials to match the colors of the State of Alabama's Career and Technical Education theme and concept. All other Career Tech. Teachers at our support locations supported the sprite of giving in their participation with our Annual Can Good Drive. Items collected will be donated to the Macon County Food Bank to assist families in need.
The rationale for our participation in this years' parade was to support both Alabama State University and Tuskegee University with a professional representation of our educational programs. Secondly, to display our readiness efforts towards preparing students as well as assisting them obtain employable careers after graduation. Superintendent Dr. Jacqueline A. Brooks has stressed paramount expectations for our students and their abilities to secure and to sustain themselves with employment/careers. Also as a Trustee of Alabama State University, Dr. Brooks reflects passionately on her Alma Mater, and the impact that the quality of an educational service is significant towards a student’s ability to be successful in their chosen career.
Skills Readiness requires sufficient preparation; therefore students must prepare strategically for their careers while in high school. Within our current programs we offer: Aerospace Engineering, AgriConstruction, Animal Systems, Automotive Servicing, Army JROTC, Business Management and Administration, Computer Essentials, Cooperative Education, Cosmetology, Family Studies and Community Services, Teen Discoveries & Teen Connections, Television Production, and Robotics. All of these programs are between our three secondary schools; Tuskegee Institute Middle School, Notasulga High School, and Booker T. Washington High School. We also offer instruction at our Administrative Career Tech. Center. These programs are designed to complement the students "Common Core" academic skills by providing them with employable talents that are attractive to industry. Indeed we are a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) engaged division of learning.
Photos from this years' event will include:
