 Vacation 12-Month Employees

The Macon County Board of Education shall have the authority, under such rules and regulations as may be promulgated from time to time by the State Board of Education, to provide for vacation leave for twelve (12) month employees of the Board. The Board may provide vacation leave during the time school is not in session. When school is in session, vacation leave will not be allowed during peak employment times of a specific job classification (except in cases of unusual circumstances).  Twelve-month employees shall earn vacation days at the rate of one day per month, beginning July 1 of the contract year and ending June 30 of the contract year. The Macon County Board of Education policy on vacation is outlined below:

Policy on Vacation

5.9.6 Vacation

a.          Eligible Employees – Twelve-month full-time employees are eligible for paid vacation.

b.         Vacation Benefits – Eligible employees will earn vacation benefits as follows:

1.          Personnel shall earn twelve (12) days per year, accrued monthly.

2.           New employees must be employed for six (6) months before earning vacation.

3.          Only consecutive service with the Board will be considered in establishing length of service for purposes of determining vacation benefits.

c.          Accrual and Accumulation of Vacation Time – For purposes of earning vacation, a year extends from October 1 to September 30 of each year.  Vacation earned must be used by September 30th of each year or be forfeited; provided, however, that the Superintendent may, in individual circumstances, upon specific approval, and when the Board’s needs so require, extend the deadline for using vacation by ninety (90) days and, in such case, accrued vacation will not be forfeited until the expiration of the ninety (90) day period.  Vacation days may not be bought, sold, or donated. Accumulated vacation time will be forfeited if not used prior to the effective date of resignation or retirement.  No payment will be made for any vacation leave that is unused as of the employee’s resignation, termination or death.

d.          Scheduling – Vacations must be scheduled with the knowledge and approval of the employee’s department head.
