SUBSTITUTE EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION PROCEDURES

The Macon County School District accepts Substitute applications for the purpose of compiling a List of Substitutes to be utilized in the absence of regular employees. The District continues to seek qualified individuals to serve in this capacity.  Please understand that a substitute works on an as needed basis. The District does not guarantee the availability of work in any given month.

 

The process begins at Central Office’s Human Resources/Personnel Department.  The contact person is Ms. Marycile Echols.  The criteria for substitute employment are those that are required by the Alabama Department of Education.

 

TO ALL APPLICANTS:

  1. No applicant will be cleared for employment until all required documents are on file.
  2. If you currently hold a valid teaching certificate or substitute license issued by the Alabama Department of Education, you will not be required to apply for a  substitute teaching certificate.
  3. If you have completed a criminal history background review after July 1, 1999, you will not be required to do so again.  You must have Alabama Bureau of Investigation (ABI)  and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) clearance.
  4. Once you have been cleared, and a substitute license has been issued by the Alabama Department of Education, your name will be presented to the local Board of Education for addition to the district’s substitute employees list.  The regular School Board meets the third Thursday of the month.  Please note that there can be a delay of up to three to four weeks before your name is officially distributed to schools for availability.
  5. No applicant will be permitted to work as a substitute employee in the school district prior to local Board approval.
  6. Individual school personnel will contact persons to work as substitutes as the need arises.  Therefore, it is your responsibility to make sure that the District has updated contact information. To update information, you will be required to complete a substitute employee profile sheet with the Human Resources Department.
  7. Each substitute employee will be required to complete the necessary paperwork for payroll purposes (i.e. I-9, A-4 & W-4).  The contact person is Ms. Janice Colvert.
  8. Once approved for substitute employment, a pay period date schedule is available for your information.
  9. The District does not assume that you are available each year.  Therefore, it is your responsibility to make your availability known by completing a substitute employee profile sheet anytime after May of each school year.
  10. Please allow seven to ten working days for your paperwork to be processed locally, and forwarded to the Alabama Department of Education.
  11.  The application process for the Substitute License must also be completed. You may access the application on the Alabama State Department of Education website: www.alsde.edu.
