Fingerprinting/Background Check

It is the goal of the Macon County School System to employ a professional workforce. This means that we seek to employ only the most qualified and committed applicants available for posted positions. Thus, all employees of the Board of Education must be fingerprinted.

Effective March 30, 2012, the Alabama State Department of Education uses Cogent Systems as the outsourcing vender for fingerprinting services. This system requires an online registration prior to reporting to the designated fingerprint locations.

The Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 requires that, effective July 21, 2002, an applicant for certification, licensure, or an applicant employed by a local school system or nonpublic school who will have unsupervised access to children in an educational environment shall be required to be fingerprinted for a criminal history background check through the Alabama Bureau of Investigation (ABI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) pursuant to Act 2002-457.

The current outsourcing agency for fingerprinting procedures is Cogent Systems.  Please click here to get more information about fees, locations, and registration:  https://www.aps.gemalto.com/al/index_adeNew.htm.
