I-9 Requirements and Documentation

In 1986, Congress passed the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA). This act requires that all employers keep a completed Form I-9 for every new employee hired after November 6,2009. The Form I-9 helps an employer to verify individuals who are authorized to work in the United States of America. 

Employer must retain an employees' completed Form I-9 for as long as the individual works for the employer. This form must be signed and stored with the original handwritten signatures.
